ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Lahore – Pakistan will host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with or without arch-rivals India, who have threatened not to come due to political tension. The mega event is scheduled from February 19 to March 9 in three cities: Rawalpindi, Karachi, and Lahore.
PCB’s Commitment to the Event
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi reaffirmed the country’s readiness to organize the prestigious event. Speaking at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Monday, Naqvi expressed confidence in hosting the tournament successfully. “We are committed to achieving our target and, God willing, we will host the Champions Trophy safely,” he said. Pakistan, the defending champion after their 2017 win in England, is very much looking forward to the event and awaiting confirmation of the ICC-drawn-up fixture, which is due out by November 20.
Call for Dialogue and Clarity on Participation
Naqvi also discussed India’s denial to send its team, and the need to keep sports apart from politics. He urged India to come forward for a dialogue, stating, “If India has concerns, they should talk to us. We are ready to address them. All other qualified teams have no issues coming to Pakistan.” He also made it clear that Pakistan would not consider a hybrid model, like the one used for last year’s Asia Cup, where India played its matches in Sri Lanka. New Appointment for PCB’s Coaching Staff
In addition to discussions around the Champions Trophy, Naqvi confirmed Aqib Javed’s appointment as the interim white-ball head coach of the national team. This follows the dismissal of rumors that Javed would replace Jason Gillespie as head coach for all formats.
ICC Champions Trophy 2025
The official Champions Trophy tour commenced over the weekend in Islamabad, with the trophy put up at various prominent places like Daman-e-Koh, Faisal Mosque, and the Pakistan Monument.
The country, however, has not let any of these challenges daunt its preparations to hold a good tournament and is eager, come 2025, to warmly receive the visiting teams.
